How to Install BDE on RAD Studio, Delphi, C Builder 10.3 Rio
BDE (Borland Database Engine) is a legacy database access technology that was used by many applications developed with Borland tools in the past. Although BDE is deprecated and not recommended for new development, some users may still need to use it for compatibility reasons.
In this article, we will show you how to install BDE on RAD Studio, Delphi, C Builder 10.3 Rio, the latest version of the Embarcadero development tools. Note that BDE is not officially supported by Embarcadero and may not work properly on newer versions of Windows or with newer database drivers.
Step 1: Download BDE Installer
The first step is to download the BDE Installer from the following link:
This is a third-party tool created by Jens Geyer that automates the installation of BDE on modern Windows systems. It also includes some patches and fixes for common BDE issues.
Step 2: Run BDE Installer
The next step is to run the BDE Installer as an administrator. You will see a welcome screen like this:
Click Next to continue. You will see a license agreement screen like this:
Read the license agreement and click I Agree if you accept it. You will see a destination folder screen like this:
Choose a folder where you want to install BDE and click Next. You will see a component selection screen like this:
Select the components you want to install and click Next. You will see a ready to install screen like this:
Click Install to start the installation process. You will see a progress screen like this:
Wait until the installation is completed. You will see a finish screen like this:
Click Finish to exit the installer.
Step 3: Configure BDE
The last step is to configure BDE for your application. To do this, you need to run the BDE Administrator tool that was installed by the BDE Installer. You can find it in the Start menu under Embarcadero\\BDE Administrator.
